This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Fixinary ("Fixinary," "we," "us," or "our") collects, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to our websites, applications, and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use.
1. Information We Collect
| Category | Examples | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Account information | Email address, password (stored in protected form), account settings, plan status | You |
| Content you provide | Messages and answers you type or speak in a diagnosis (including follow-up questions), star ratings and "what helped" notes, photos and short videos you add during a diagnosis, appliance-label photos you add on My Home, other files you send us, and feedback and support emails | You |
| Diagnosis and usage data | The answers and repair guidance generated for you, home and appliance details you save, your email preferences, how often you use the Service, feature use, request volumes and related technical measurements | Generated as you use the Service |
| Payment information | Plan, billing dates, payment status, and the last four digits and brand of your card. Card numbers are handled by our payment processor and are not stored on our servers | You and our payment processor |
| Device and log information | IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, dates and times, and error logs | Collected automatically |
| Cookies and similar technologies | Identifiers and usage events (for example, signup steps, diagnosis started or finished, checkout, and payment) used for analytics and advertising measurement on our website and in the Service | Collected automatically |
| Waitlist and marketing information | Email address, whether you opted in to a newsletter, and which ad or link brought you to our site | You and our marketing tools |
| Information in photos and videos | Photos and short videos of your home can show rooms, belongings, people, or addresses. We remove location data before upload (see below) | You |
| Photo descriptions | A short text description of the equipment our AI sees in each photo or video, such as the appliance, brand and model, age if readable on a label, and the visible part or problem | Generated from your photos and videos |
Photos you upload. When you add a photo during a diagnosis, or an appliance-label photo on My Home, your browser first saves a fresh copy of it. That copy drops the hidden details stored in the file, including location data, and only the copy is uploaded. We store it in private storage linked to your account. Other users can't see your photos. We use diagnosis photos to diagnose your problem and show your diagnosis history, as described in Sections 2 to 4. We use My Home label photos to read the appliance's brand, model, and age for your home profile.
Short videos. We don't upload or store your video. When you choose a short video, your browser takes five still frames from it and combines them into one image, without location data. Only that image is uploaded, and we handle it like a photo.
Voice input. If you speak instead of typing, your browser's built-in speech-to-text feature turns your speech into text. We don't record, store, or receive the audio. Some browsers send the audio to the browser maker (for example Google or Apple) to do this, under that company's privacy policy. We keep the text as part of your diagnosis, the same as if you had typed it.
Photo descriptions. For each photo or video image, we save a short text description of the equipment our AI saw, such as the appliance, its brand and model, and the visible part or problem. We instruct our AI to leave out people, addresses, and serial numbers. We use them to improve Fixinary as described in Section 3, including to build a library of similar fixes.
Please don't upload photos, videos, or text that show other people's private information (for example faces, IDs, financial details, or others' addresses) unless it is needed to show a home problem.
If you sign in with Google or Facebook
If you choose to sign in with Google or Facebook, we ask only for your basic profile and email address. That service then shares with us:
- your name;
- your email address;
- your profile photo; and
- an ID that links your Google or Facebook login to your Fixinary account.
We use your email address to create your account and sign you in, and your name to greet you by your first name. Our sign-in provider stores this information, including the profile photo, with your account record, but we don't display or use your profile photo.
We don't get your Google or Facebook password. We don't get access to your contacts, friends list, posts, email, files, or calendar, and we can't post anything for you. Google's and Meta's own handling of your information is covered by their privacy policies.
You can stop Google or Facebook from sharing with us at any time by removing Fixinary in your Google Account or Facebook settings. That stops future sharing but doesn't delete what we already have. To delete your Fixinary account and data, follow the steps at fixinary.com/data-deletion.
2. How We Use Information
We use personal information to:
- create and secure your account, and provide the Service;
- generate troubleshooting answers, repair guidance, and safety warnings for you;
- process payments, renewals, refunds, and billing communications;
- send you a "Did it work?" email about a day after a diagnosis, unless you turn these off in Account;
- let you download a copy of your data;
- respond to support requests and communicate with you about your account and changes to our terms;
- detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- measure how the Service and our advertising perform;
- send you marketing emails you signed up for (you can unsubscribe at any time);
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms; and
- learn from how the Service is used so we can make it better (Section 3).
3. How Fixinary Learns From Your Use
Fixinary learns from its users. That is how the Service gets better. As a condition of using the Service, we use your content and related usage information to evaluate and improve our answers and safety checks, to build and refine Fixinary's repair-guidance library, search, and retrieval systems, and to develop, fine-tune, and train models and systems that Fixinary operates. This use is part of how the Service works. There is no setting to opt out of it. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
If you ask us to delete your personal information (Section 9), we will delete it or remove the personal identifiers from what we keep for learning. Knowledge and improvements already derived from de-identified or aggregated information remain.
4. AI Processing
The Service uses artificial intelligence provided by third-party AI providers. When you submit a message, photo, or short video, we send the text and images (with the context needed to answer) to our AI provider, which generates the response. For a short video, our AI provider receives only the combined still image, not the video. For photos and video images, we give our AI provider a private link that expires within 10 minutes, so it can read the photo for that request. Under its standard commercial terms, our AI provider deletes what we send it within 30 days, unless the law requires it to keep it longer or its safety systems flag it for misuse. Under the commercial terms we have with our AI provider, it may not use content we send through its service to train its own models. AI responses can be wrong, and you should not treat them as professional advice. See our Terms of Use.
Safety scoring. As an extra safety check, we send the text of the problem you describe and the answer we gave to a separate safety-review provider. It rates how risky the answer may be, so we can find and fix answers that need stronger safety warnings. We don't send it your photos.
5. De-identified Data and Data Sales
- We do not sell personal information. We do not sell your content in a form that identifies you.
- We may create de-identified and aggregated data from your content and usage information, and we may use, license, sell, or otherwise share that data with third parties for any purpose.
- Our commitments about that data: we take reasonable measures to ensure it cannot be associated with you or your household; we publicly commit to maintain and use it only in de-identified form and not to attempt to re-identify it (except to test whether our de-identification works); and we require anyone who receives it to agree to the same.
- Data we describe as de-identified is not personal information for purposes of this Policy, and the rights in Section 9 do not apply to it.
6. Who We Share Personal Information With
We share personal information only as described here.
- Service providers that help us run the Service and act on our instructions: payment processors, authentication and database providers, AI model providers, safety-review providers, hosting and delivery providers, email and support tools, and security and analytics providers.
- Advertising and analytics partners. Our website and the Service use tools from Google (Google Analytics) and Meta (the Meta Pixel and Conversions API) to measure traffic and advertising results. These tools may collect your IP address, device identifiers, pages viewed, and steps you take in the Service, such as starting signup, finishing a diagnosis, viewing plans, checking out, and paying. These events don't include your chats, photos, or diagnosis content. When you sign up or buy a paid plan, we also send Meta a scrambled (hashed) version of your email address and Fixinary user ID, along with the amount paid, so Meta can match the event to its ad records. Under California law, this can count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. See Section 7 for how to opt out.
- Recipients of de-identified data, as described in Section 5.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information to comply with law or legal process, to protect the rights, safety, or property of Fixinary, our users, or others, and to investigate fraud or security issues.
- Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. If the new owner materially changes how it uses your information, we will give you notice as required by law.
- With your direction. We share information when you ask us to, for example when you contact support and give us permission to work with a third party.
We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing.
7. Cookies, Tracking, and Your Ad Choices
- Our website and the Service use cookies, pixels, and similar tools for analytics and advertising measurement, and send some events directly from our servers (see Section 6). The Service also uses cookies and local storage that are needed for signing in and keeping your session. If you opt out, we stop this sharing for you, including the events our servers send to Meta.
- To opt out of sharing for advertising, use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link on our website, or contact us at legal@fixinary.com. We also treat a browser opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control as an opt-out request for that browser.
- You can also block or delete cookies in your browser and use the opt-out tools offered by advertising platforms.
- Do Not Track. Browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting. There is no common standard for it, so we do not respond to Do Not Track signals other than as described in this Section.
8. How Long We Keep Information
| Information | Retention |
|---|---|
| Account information | While your account is open, and deleted within 30 days after you close it or ask us to delete it (backup copies may remain for up to 90 days) |
| Photos and video images you upload | While your account is open. Deleted when you delete your account or ask us to delete them (backup copies may remain for up to 90 days) |
| Photo descriptions | While your account is open. When you delete your account, we remove anything that links them to you, and we will keep the de-identified descriptions as described in Sections 3 and 5 |
| Chats and diagnosis history (including spoken answers saved as text, star ratings, and "what helped" notes) | While your account is open. Within 90 days after you close your account or ask us to delete it, your chats are deleted. We will keep a de-identified record of each diagnosis (a summary of the problem, the answer we gave, and whether the fix worked), with anything that links it to you removed, as described in Sections 3 and 5 |
| Email preferences | While your account is open, and deleted with your account |
| Free-diagnosis record | After your account is deleted, we keep a scrambled one-way code made from your email address (not the address itself) and a note that its free diagnosis was used, for 12 months, so a new account with the same email doesn't get another free diagnosis |
| Billing and tax records | Up to 4 years, as needed for tax and accounting |
| Waitlist and marketing emails | Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them |
| Device and log information | Up to 12 months |
| De-identified and aggregated data | Kept as long as it is useful |
We may keep information longer if needed to resolve a dispute, enforce our Terms, prevent fraud, or comply with law.
9. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and share, and get a copy;
- delete personal information we collected from you;
- correct inaccurate personal information;
- opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising (we do not sell personal information);
- limit the use of sensitive personal information (we use it only to provide the Service and for security and legal purposes); and
- not be treated differently for using your rights.
Deleting your account and data. Step-by-step instructions, including for accounts created with Google or Facebook, are at fixinary.com/data-deletion.
Download my data. In Account, you can download a copy of your profile, home, and diagnoses as a JSON file. It contains your text and details, not the photo or image files themselves. To ask for a copy of your photos, email us as described below.
How to make a request. Email legal@fixinary.com with the subject "Privacy Request" and say which right you want to use. We will ask you to verify your identity, usually by confirming the email address on your account. An authorized agent may make a request for you with your written permission. We respond within the time required by law, which is usually 45 days, and tell you if we need more time.
Limits. We may deny or limit a request where the law allows, for example if we can't verify who you are, or if we need the information to complete a transaction, detect fraud, comply with law, or protect legal rights. Rights do not apply to de-identified data, and requests do not undo improvements already derived from de-identified or aggregated information.
Sensitive personal information. Your account login (email and password) counts as sensitive personal information under California law. We use it only to provide the Service, keep it secure, and prevent fraud. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
California "Shine the Light." California residents may ask us once a year which categories of personal information we shared with third parties for their direct marketing. We do not share personal information for third-party direct marketing.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including access controls and encryption in transit. Photos and video images are kept in private storage, and links to them expire within an hour. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Choose a strong password and keep it private. If we learn of a breach that affects your information, we will notify you as required by law.
11. Children
The Service is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Where Information Is Processed
We operate in the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States. The Service is intended for users in the United States.
13. Emails
We send account, billing, and security messages whenever needed.
About a day after a diagnosis, we send a "Did it work?" email asking whether the fix worked. These emails are on unless you turn them off in Account.
If you join our waitlist or newsletter, we email you about Fixinary. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. We post the updated version on our website with a new "Last updated" date, and we review it at least once a year. By continuing to use the Service after an update takes effect, you agree to the updated Policy. If we make a material change to how we use personal information we already hold, we will give you notice before applying it to that information.
